The world is a very cool place

But then, you already knew that didn’t you?

Each time I go through all of the emails, blog posts, tweets, magazines, newspapers, newsletters, and such that I get each day, my list of amazing places to go to/see/try grows. Lately, as the year winds down and seniors are creating their to-do lists before leaving, these lists have only gotten exponentially longer. So to follow is the updated list of all the places to go/eat/shop/see in various cities around the globe.

  • Salt & Straw—Portland, OR—said to feature some of America’s best ice cream
  • Delancey—Seattle, WA—Molly Wizenberg, of Orangette and Spilled Milk fame, and husband Brandon Pettit’s pizza restaurant
  • Essex—Seattle, WA—the duo’s soon-to-open craft-cocktail bar
  • Spy: The exhibit—Discovery Times Square, NY—The world of espionage uncovered. In a word: cool.
  • Terracotta Warriors—Discovery Times Square, NY—China’s terracotta warriors finally on display outside their home country. Haunting in the best way.

But don’t hate her because she’s beautiful: her talent and originality would draw wolf whistles if she were an 86-year-old hunchbacked troll.

—Liesl Schillinger on Marisha Pessl from the New York Times review of Special Topics in Calamity Physics

A very calamitous post.

I’m writing the longest paper ever on Marisha Pessl’s Special Topics in Calamity Physics and my rationale for why it should replace another novel on the existing syllabus for my contemporary american literature 1990-2000 class. So in doing a little research for my tome, I came across an article Pessl’s food habits, haunts, and rituals. Favorite author + obsession with food? Hello new best friend! Check out this article about her food loves from Grub Street New York here.

Minimalist.

The styling of this photo and ad in the latest email from BHLDN was too lovely to throw away. I hope this red velvet actually had some flavor!
